The main scope PFMM is to develop software modules, in order to complement the IDROMEL projet. In particular, PFMM aims at developing physical layer algorithms for the various modulation schemes (OFDM and CDMA) that correspond to the main existing and emerging standards (3G, Wifi, Wimax, LTE, ...). A specific work is done concerning the developpment od generic modules for the physical layer (channel coding/decoding, modulation , ... Moreover, as far as possible, the waveform shall be software-based in order to perform the required functionalities. In a general way, in the SDR paradigm, the waveform shall be based as far as possible on software, which allows new waveforms implementations, evolutions and bugs fixing on the hardware platform. This involves the development of software components at each level of the protocol stack:
physical layer: real-time physical layer modules for both transmission and reception of the targeted standards (UMTS-like and WiMax-like) shall be developed in order to allow the switch between standards. In particular the scheduling of the physical layer task shall be possibly adapted to allow the foreseen demonstration. These developments shall be led in close relationship with SP4 developments to define the hardware/software interfaces and partitioning. real-time communications: protocal stacks for both UMTS-like and WiMax-like standards shall be developed, based on developments led by IDROMel partners in previous collaborative projects. Real-time communications, at IP level, are targeted on both technologies. In particular, interfaces between layers shall be simple and well identified to ease the reconfigurability required in the scope of IDROMel vertical handover management: dedicated software architecture and components shall be developed to allow the management of the vertical handover between the two standards on the same hardware platform.
The developped software modules in the PFFM are widely accessible here as a part of the Opern Air Interface Platform. |
