September 16-18, 2008: Public Demonstration of OpenAirInterface at the 19th annual IEEE Conference on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC 2008) in Cannes, France.
This event marked the first time OpenAirInterface's rapidly-deployable mesh networking solution (OpenAirMesh) was shown to the public. The demonstration made use of four stations equipped with CardBus MIMO I 1.9 GHz TDD RF hardware running the openair1/openair2/openair3 mesh networking protocol stack. The demontration included real-time IPv6 traffic over the OFDMA-based air-interface as well as distributed spatial signal processing enabling network synchronization across several radio clusters. In addition, several poster presentations summarizing the future OpenAirInterface platforms was also provided (AgileRF and ExpressMIMO) along with a small demonstration of the OpenAirInterface system emulation platform. March 7th 2008 : OpenAirInterface.org has received from the French regulatory body (ARCEP) a spectrum allocation for FDD experimentation at 2.6 GHz with 20 MHz channels (precisely at 2650-2670 MHz for the Downlink and 2570-2590 MHz for the Uplink). This will begin as soon as AgileRF and ExpressMIMO are operational, which is likely to be by the end of 2008.
